Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee. A local goat herder noticed his goats behaving oddly after consuming some beans. He took these beans to a local monastery; the monks initially thought it was the craft of the devil and threw the beans in the fire. A unique and pleasant aroma filled the air as the beans burned and re-energized the monks. They used the coffee beans to form a liquid beverage that allowed them to remain awake longer for their meditations and readings.
The traditional coffee ceremony is an integral part of social interactions, where the beans are roasted, ground, and brewed ceremonially right before you.
